Nordic Network on Disability Research

The 6th Annual Research Conference
The conference is the annual conference of NNDR, Nordic Network on Disability Research, a multidisciplinary network of disability researchers using a social science perspective on disability. One emphasis of this year's conference is to examine the differences and similarities in disability research and the way disability is understood and conceptualised in the UK and in the Nordic countries.

The most original way to make jewelry is to get the material sraight from nature. In her book Jewelry from Nature Cathy Yow shows 45 ways how to make beautyful jewelry using "sticks & stones, seeds & bones."

Techniques from the Vikings In her Book Great Wire Jewelry Irene From Petersen teaches how to make jewelry using the traditional techniques first used by the Vikings.

 

Wirework

Michael Ball shows in his book Wirework how to make decorative and functional wirework pieces for the home. There are detailed illustrations and templates to guide you through 17 projects in the book.

This book by Rosalind Wates contains more than 100 colourful designs for mosaicists. The designs are ideal for beginners and people with little time, because they are relatively small.

Making Little Boxes from Wood is a book by John Bennett. It Consists of 24 very different wooden box designs with complete guide how to make them by yourself. This is a sourcebook for alternative joints, lids and decorations as well.

Tippey, David, Carving Realistic Birds. Guild of Master Craftsman Publications Ltd, 1996.

David Tippey has made a complete guide of carving realistic birds from wood. There are directions from getting the materials to finishing the surface.

Crafts Leading and Recreational Activities

There is a wide range of possible activities using various methods of arts and crafts, group work, creative arts, plays and games, camping and other applied excercise. These methods are used for
leisure, hobby, recreation, stimulation or rehabilitation activities - either with individual clients or groups. The aim of the different activities is either pedagogic or therapeutic, depending on the client needs and conditions.

Pedagogic crafts leading

aims at providing the clients with meaningful activities and a chance to develop themselves and their personal inclinations in leisure. The aim is either pedagogical or recreational. The activities provide the clients with meaningful ways and possibilities for social interaction, acquiring practical skills, developing their artistic or other creative inclinations when expressing themselves, getting away from the everyday routines and stress, building up their strength and for recreation in their freetime.

Therapeutic recreation

aims at assisting clients suffering from an illness, disability, aging or other factors weakening their functional capacity, to develop and to use their freetime to promote their health, independence and well-being. A wide range of meaningful activities is used to increase the clients´ initiative and activity, to practise their motoric and psychosocial skills and to enhance their self-esteem. The aim is either maintaining their functional capacity or rehabilitation in order to enable more independence and to reduce the disadvantages caused by the illness or disability.

Career prospects

for the graduates from the degree programme of crafts leading and recreational activities are good in the public sector of culture and education and in the field of social and health care. They can also be employed by various institutions and organizations or become self-employed.
